PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A machete-wielding thief held up a Southeast Portland market — but he only wanted junk food.

The man went into the B&C Foods, 12198 SE Foster Road, around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. He grabbed some frozen pizzas, candy and pepperoni sticks, then threatened the clerk with the machete before he left without paying, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.

He’s described as a white man in his early 20s, tall with a thin build, light-colored hair and a goatee. He was wearing all black clothing and a baseball cap. He reportedly carried the machete inside his pants.

Anyone with information should call the Portland Police Bureau at 503.823.0405.

Update: On Monday Portland police officers arrested 18-year-old David Robert Baker in connection with this and another armed robbery in Southeast Portland.

“A Portland Police Robbery Detective viewed surveillance video this morning and then saw the suspect waiting to get on a TriMet bus in the area of the robberies,” PPB reported in a late Monday news release. “East Precinct officers responded to arrest Baker off of a TriMet bus.”

They said Baker struggled with officers but ultimately was taken into custody. Police are saying the officer received “minor injuries” during the struggle.

“Officers recovered a machete from Baker’s pants,” PPB reported.

They believed he also robbed a Plaid Pantry, at 11010 SE Foster Road, with a machete just after midnight Monday morning — grabbing a soda, chocolate mini-donuts and beef jerky before demanding money and cigarettes.

Baker has been charged with two counts of Robbery in the First Degree. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and is expected to be arraigned Tuesday.
