PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Low income and homeless patients can now get food vouchers from Legacy Good Samaritan to buy fresh produce and meat from a mobile grocery store.

A nurse wrote a grant to get the program, called My Street Grocery, started.

“In working with the patients, many times we’re trying to get them healthy, (but) we can’t address health needs. We need to help them with housing and/or food,” said Legacy Good Samaritan nurse Debbie McKissack.

My Street Grocery is also open to the public. It’s in the Good Sam clinic parking lot on NW 23rd now, but officials hope to add more locations throughout the summer.
