LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (KOIN) — A 54-year-old woman drowned after she and her adult daughter were swept into deeper water at a Lincoln City area beach Friday.

The Vancouver woman and her daughter went swimming at the D River Wayside State Recreation Area, the Oregon State Police said in a release. A rip current overtook them, and though the 23-year-old daughter was able to escape back toward shore, her mother did not make it.

Emergency responders quickly found the woman and rushed her to an area hospital, but she was pronounced dead.

She was visiting the area with her family. Her name has not been released at this time.
