BIRKENFELD, Ore. (KOIN) — The National Weather Service determined a very weak tornado caused the damage from a storm in Birkenfeld Tuesday afternoon.
The NWS made this determination without any on-site investigation. Instead, they relied on conversations with residents, damage photos, and weak storm rotation seen on Doppler radar wind data.
“This was most likely a tornado, but a very weak one, barely a zero” on the Enhanced Fujita scale, said NWS meteorologist Liana Ramirez.
The evidence pointed to wind speeds between 65 and 85 mph, officials said.
