VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) — A trailer containing $13,000 of equipment for a family-owned business was stolen from their driveway, leaving both the family and business in limbo.
For years, the Ah Yek family made their living selling corn dogs, strawberry shortcake, shaved ice and more at the Vancouver Farmers Market. Kristen Ah Yek told KOIN 6 News the van holds 90% of the equipment for their business.
The theft happened sometime early Tuesday morning and surveillance video caught a brief glimpse of the suspect who came out of the bushes outside their home in the Carter Park neighborhood, then driving off in their 1994 Ford U-Haul van.
The van’s license plate number is B33339D.
“I’m assuming they must have entered through the driver’s side of the vehicle and waited for the perfect time to hot-wire and take off with the truck,” Ah Yek said. “We have commercial fryers in there. We have a commercial freezer on wheels. It’s red.”
They believe the commercial equipment may pop up on Craigslist, and urge the public to keep an eye out for it.
“This is our lifeline so we can’t really afford to miss days,” she said. “We value the market. The market is like family to me.”
