PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A team of officers, including gang detectives, will be on hand for the memorial and funeral of a 21-year-old man killed in an apparent gang shooting.

Andreas Jones-Dixon, 21, was shot to death June 9 outside an apartment complex in the 19000-block of East Burnside Street in Gresham, police said.

The case has gone unsolved, but detectives said they are continuing to work the case every day following up on new leads.

Multiple people called 911 that Sunday to report hearing shots fired, police said. By the time officers arrived, the shooter and any associates may have left, detectives said.

Officers with the Portland Police Bureau will be around the area of Southeast 118th and Mt. Scott Boulevard before, during and after today’s service, which starts at 10 a.m., KOIN 6 News has learned.

With higher profile events like today’s service, the gang unit “will definitely be aware and prepared for any flare ups between gang associates,” said Lt. Michael Marshman.

Jones-Dixon’s burial will be held Wednesday, Portland Police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson said.

An online memorial for Jones-Dixon described his approach to life as fearless.

“Andreas’ generous nature was often displayed in a multitude of ways. He would offer you words of encouragement and advisement,” the author wrote. “He was huge at helping, willing to give a hand at a moment’s notice using his extraordinary ability to organize even the most God-forsaken messes.”

Detectives have not said what specific gangs are believed to be involved, but some investigators have hinted members of the Bloods gang may be connected to the case.

Anyone with information that could help solve the murder of Jones-Dixon is asked to call detectives with the Gresham Police Department at 503-618-2719.
