PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A brush fire burning off Interstate 84 led to the closure of the freeway’s westbound lanes east of Huntington, Ore., Wednesday night.
This is near the Idaho border.
The fire burned roughly two miles of brush along Interstate 84, before the wind shifted and moved the fire north, said Oregon State Police Sergeant Kurt Marvin.
The westbound lanes were closed between exits 345 and 353 as of 8 p.m. Wednesday. The fire was extinguished as of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Department. Traffic also was being let through at that time.
Firefighters from several local fire departments, the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service responded to fight the fire, Oregon State Police reported. Oregon’s Department of Transportation also had crews at the scene to coordinate traffic during the closure.
