PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A little girl lost consciousness when she and another girl fell out of a second-story window at a Portland apartment complex Wednesday.

Rich Chatman with Portland Fire & Rescue told KOIN 6 News that the girls, ages 2 and 3, fell from the window onto hard-packed dirt. The complex is at 8912 N. Newell Ave. in Portland, Chatman said.

Crews arrived to find the window screen out and a woman with the children. She is being identified as the mother of one of the children and the grandmother of the other.

The woman told firefighters she went to the restroom and the girls found the window while she was out of the room. She said one of the girls lost consciousness briefly after the fall.

Both children were conscious by the time they were taken to the hospital.
