CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — A registered sex offender has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison for having sex with a former cheerleading student.
The Gazette-Times reports 38-year-old David Chatman pleaded no contest to a felony charge of sexual abuse. In exchange, prosecutors dismissed a rape charge.
The former student was 17 years old at the time of the abuse, and prosecutors say Chatman had known her since she was in the third grade. He was her cheerleading coach in Tualatin until he was convicted of charges related to fondling another student.
Chatman served his time and moved to Corvallis. He reconnected with the victim in a platonic relationship through online social media.
The victim visited Corvallis and awoke to find Chatman having sex with her.
