PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A cab driver assaulted and car-jacked in downtown Portland is back on the road.

The attack happened Tuesday night near Southwest Naito and Morrison. The driver had three passengers in his cab when a man ran up to the cab while it was stopped at the intersection. As the passengers escaped, driver Osman Sheikh got out to fight back.

“I told the customers to get out, because the situation was getting bad,” Sheikh told KOIN 6 News. “And I tried to get the door — I tried to get the key out of the engine so I could get out.”

Before he could do that, the suspect jumped into the taxi and took off.

Police found the cab, abandoned in Clark County. They’re still looking for the man behind the attack.
