LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (KOIN) — A Lake Oswego Junior High School student was approached by a man in a van near the school Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the student was walking home from school in an alley behind 9th Street when the stranger pulled up. The man — white, in his 30s, with brown hair and a brown beard — told the teen his mother told him to give the boy a ride. But when the teen asked him what his mother’s name was, the man didn’t answer and drove off in his full-size van.
The school district sent a warning message to all parents and encouraged them to remind their children about how to deal with stranger danger.
What could have been an attempted abduction has parents like Julie Deborde taking precautions.
“I think it’s scary,” she said. “It’s every parents’ fear.”
The investigation continues but no one is in custody.
