SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (KOIN) — A motorcyclist died early Saturday morning when he lost control on a curve and was ejected over an embankment into a creek.

The 22-year-old from Eugene was traveling along US Forest Service Road 18 east of Fall Creek Reservoir in Lane County, officials from the Oregon State Police said in a release. Around 6:45 a.m., he lost control on a right curve and crossed the road.

He flew off the bike and over a 30-foot embankment and landed on bedrock below. Authorities said he was partially submerged in a creek.

He was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.

Investigators believe speed was a factor.
