(KOIN) – A man was captured after reportedly stealing a car and then leading officers on a high-speed chase in Tillamook County Monday.

Oregon State Police (OSP) report that troopers attempted to stop a stolen 2001 Chrysler Sebring at about 1:30 a.m. Monday on Highway 6 east of Tillamook. The car sped away, and drove down some country roads near the town of Lee’s Camp.

The driver fled the car and escaped into the woods, OSP said. A passenger in the vehicle, 22-year-old Eder Alejandro Hernandez, was arrested.

On Monday afternoon, Tillamook County sheriff’s deputies were searching an area south of Highway 6 when they were contacted by nearby loggers who had spotted a man matching a description of the suspect. Deputies eventually apprehended 28-year-old Thomas Anthony White of Hillsboro.

He faces multiple counts, including reckless driving, possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and felony attempt to elude in a vehicle. White was also wanted on a warrant out of Washington County for failure to appear on a charge of first-degree theft.

White is lodged in the Tillamook County Jail.
