WARRENTON, Ore. (AP) — A Coast Guard helicopter has rescued a teenage girl from the surf on the northwest Oregon coast.

Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn says his agency responded Friday afternoon to a call from help from Sunset Beach near Warrenton. He says a man had entered the surf to help the girl and was holding her head above water and pulling her closer to shore. Littlejohn says the man was able to load the girl into a rescue basket lowered by the helicopter.

The Coast Guard then flew her to waiting medics in Warrenton. The spokesman says she was conscious aboard the helicopter but he did not know her condition.

Littlejohn says the girl was wearing pants and a sweatshirt and it was unclear how she ended up in the water.
