PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The country’s first non-profit pub opens Friday — in Portland.

The grand opening for the Oregon Public House, at 700 NE Dekum St., is set for 3 p.m.  A “soft opening” is being held Thursday night.

Here’s how it works: Those “buying” a beer at this pub choose which of eight charities their money goes to help support.

The owners have been re-modeling the space for the brew pub for more than two years. It has taken that long because most of the work was done by volunteers, with funding from donors.
