PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Though he was tracking a speeding driver, a Portland police officer stopped his pursuit and helped a family of ducks get safely off the road.

The PPB released dashcam video of Officer Mark James tracking a driver doing 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on NW Bridge Avenue toward Highway 30 on Mother’s Day. With his lights and siren going, a family of ducks walked into the middle of the road.

James stopped his car and helped the ducks find their way to the side of the road. The speeder got away.

In the video, the PPB describes themselves as “Friends of water fowl since 1871.”
