PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A car plummeted down an embankment off Southwest Barbur Boulevard at Miles Street Tuesday night, killing the driver.

The car had struck a telephone pole, Portland Police Bureau reported. The victim was identified Wednesday as 45-year-old Lance Marcus.

According to Portland police, Marcus was speeding down northbound on Barbur in an Audi A-6 just before hitting the pole.

A toxicology report from the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office was pending.

Portland Police and Portland Fire & Rescue responded. The Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team was investigating.

The crash closed Barbur Boulevard at the Terwilliger intersection by the Kaddy Car Wash for several hours.

Barbur Boulevard is the next main arterial parallel to Interstate-5.
