Driver found in rash of I-5 hit-and-runs

PORTLAND,Ore. (KOIN) – A 60-year-old man was taken to a Portland hospital for medical and mental health evaluations after he allegedly caused four hit-and-run crashes on Interstate 5 Monday morning.

The collisions happened around 9 a.m. on I-5 southbound, near the North Killingsworth Street overpass. Three victims told Portland police that the suspect vehicle was swerving in and out of traffic, hitting their cars in process.

No one was hurt, police said.

The car was described as a white and black colored 1980s Chevrolet El Camino. Around 1:25 p.m. a driver called 911 and reported seeing the car around NE 42nd and Sumner Street. Police arrived and stopped him.

Collins’ family was notified before he was taken for evaluation. He was also cited for four hit-and-run crashes.

There were no reported injuries, Portland police said.
