HAMLET, Ore. (AP) — Two men have been cited on accusations of reckless burning after a fire in a slash pile got out of control in Clatsop County.
The Daily Astorian reported Monday the two men from Seaside face maximum penalties of a year in jail and $6,000 fines. They were identified as Carson McEwan and Chris Beatty.
Bill Boone, the fire chief in Hamlet, says the flames lit the Friday night sky and were visible from two miles away.
He says 35 firefighters and seven pieces of equipment kept the blaze contained to a half acre on property owned by Longview Fiber. The citations were issued by the Clatsop County sheriff’s office.
