BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A child about 5 years old suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car in a Beaverton parking lot Monday night, Beaverton Police Department reports.

Beaverton police officers and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue crews responded to the Fairway Downs Apartments at 8600 SW Scholls Ferry Road around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

“It appears that the driver was backing out of a parking spot,” Beaverton Police Spokesman Mike Rowe told KOIN 6 News, “and the child ran behind the car and was struck.”

He said the child is approximately 5 years old. The child was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with  serious injuries, Rowe said. By the time the child reached the hospital the injuries were not life-threatening, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

Rowe said the driver stayed at the scene for the investigation. So far no criminal charges have been issued.
