Flags lowered in Oregon for Bend soldier

BEND, Ore. (AP) — Flags at Oregon institutions are flying at half-staff Friday in honor of a Bend soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.

Gov. John Kitzhaber ordered the memorial to remember the service and sacrifice of Spc. Brandon Prescott.

The 24-year-old was killed Saturday, May 4,  along with four other Fort Bliss, Texas, based soldiers when their vehicle was destroyed by an improvised bomb.
