WEST LINN, Ore. (KOIN) — West Linn police are telling people to lock their cars — and take out their valuables.
This comes as West Linn police investigate what’s being called a “rash” of overnight thefts from vehicles in three West Linn neighborhoods since April 1.
“The suspect(s) are specifically targeting unlocked vehicles in the Willamette, Savannah Oaks and Parker Crest neighborhoods,” West Linn Police Department reports. “…So far there have been 42 separate incidents resulting in a total loss of over $7,500.”
Vehicles inside open garages were hit, as well as others on the street. Police said the break-ins aren’t happening on any particular days, and said they have few leads to go on.
For now, West Linn officers on nights are notifying residents about potential security hazards. Since April 1, night officers report finding 110 open garage doors throughout the city.
The department also offered these tips:
- Do not leave valuables in your car.
- Take a moment to ensure your car is locked and the alarm is set.
- Before going to bed check to see that your garage door is closed.
Additionally, they’re asking residents to lock their house entrance from the garage, to leave driveway lights on and to call 911 immediately about suspicious activity.
