VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) – Skeletal remains found along Interstate 5 last month are of a then-29-year-old Vancouver man missing since August of 2011.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Monday that the remains were identified as Jesse Joseph Klein.

Klein was last seen in August 2011. On April 23, Klein’s remains were found in some underbrush along I-5 southbound near the East 39th Street exit ramp in Vancouver.

Since he had been missing for nearly two years, some members of his family had hoped for the best.

But, they said, they were prepared for the worst.

“Of course it’s sad and it was a somber moment,” said Klein’s former sister-in-law, Angela Diraimo. “And then you cry…”

People who knew Jesse said he fought drug addiction — and may have relapsed after a small child of his died suddenly. According to Vancouver police, Klein was last seen on the morning of Aug. 25, 2011, leaving the Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center.

Police are not saying how he ended up along I-5, if that’s known, or how he died.
