PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 18-month-old child may have lost his or her leg and foot after being hit by a riding lawn mower in Camas, Wash.

This happened shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

A LifeFlight helicopter was dispatched to take the child to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigators believe the child’s grandfather was backing up the riding lawn mower at the time of the collision.

Clark County Sheriff’s Sgt. Craig Randall described this as “an injury to the left leg/foot.” He said the injury itself is categorized “as an amputation.”

Neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the accident, according to the preliminary investigation.
