OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) — A police investigation found inappropriate behavior between an Oregon City chemistry teacher and a 16-year-old student, though no charges have yet been filed.

The investigation began Wednesday when an adult overheard a conversation among students about the teacher and the teenage girl, Lt. Jim Band of the Oregon City Police Department told KOIN 6 News.

“This parent had overheard teenagers talking about some kind of snapchat conversation and some photos going between a student and a teacher and they were obviously inappropriate,” Lt. Band said.

The teen allegedly sent a nude picture to the 31-year-old teacher via — a text and photo messaging site for smart phones where messages self-delete soon after they’re sent — and the investigation also revealed inappropriate behavior on the teacher’s part.

The teacher, who has been with the school for about seven years, is now on paid administrative leave.

Like many parents at Oregon City High, Leroy Main is shocked that his son’s former chemistry teacher is under this type of investigation.

“He’s a great guy, a great teacher, a wonderful person,” Main said.

“You hope students, by the time the ages they are, they would know what to do. Definitely the blame is on the teacher. They’re the adult,” parent Tiffany Paresi said. “I think he did a great job. He was concerned about the children in the past.”

The investigation is ongoing. Band was not sure what, if any, charges may be forthcoming.

“We’re not sure yet. We’ve never had one of these cases. We also don’t really start talking about all of the charges until we know everything that happened.”
