A suspicious backpack forced the evacuation of a Wells Fargo bank and shut down a main road in a busy area of Beaverton Friday afternoon.
The bag was examined by a Portland police Explosive Disposal Unit and determined it to be safe. It contained tools used for giving tattoos.
The Beaverton Police Department reports that at 12:15 p.m., officers were called to the bank, located at 11601 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Hwy., due to a red and black colored backpack that had been sitting on some stairs for several hours.
The bank was completely evacuated and Beaverton Hillsdale Highway was shut down in both directions for about an hour. After the bag was found to be harmless, the road was reopened by about 1:21 p.m.
The bag contained no identifying marks, Beaverton police said, and the owner has not been found. Officers suspect it was left there by mistake.
