PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 2-year-old boy survived a fall out of a third-floor window Sunday.

Just before 8 p.m. Sunday police say the boy pushed open a window screen and fell out.

Firefighters arrived to find the boy lying in the bark dust below the window.

The home is in the 6800 block of SE 72nd Avenue in Portland.

The 2-year-old didn’t have any visible injuries. However, he was taken to Oregon Health & Science University hospital just in case.

The Portland Police Bureau called this a reminder of warm-weather hazards. Window-fall injuries are “predictable and preventable,” PPB warned.

Even on warm days, people with small pets or small children — who have windows higher than 44 inches above the ground — should open their windows no more than four inches. Window stops or guards also can be installed on windows that pose a fall risk.

If a fall does happen, “Never try to move a child who appears to be seriously injured after a fall,” said Portland Fire & Rescue spokesperson Ron Rouse in  prepared statement Sunday. “Call 911 and let trained medical personnel move the child with proper precautions.”
