A man accused of shooting at two people on a Southeast Portland MAX platform Tuesday evening was later arrested following a police chase.
Nineteen-year-old Johnte Jovan Jones of Southeast Portland faces one count of attempted aggravated murder and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon.
The shooting occurred at about 8:30 p.m. at Southeast 162nd Avenue and East Burnside Street. Two men told responding officers they were walking on the platform when the male shooter ran up behind them and fired multiple shots. No one was injured, Portland police said. The gunman then fled.
The victims told officers they did not recognize the shooter. Later, detectives with the Portland police Gang Enforcement Team identified Jones as the suspect. According to Portland police, he was taken into custody following a pursuit in which he threw a handgun out of the vehicle.
The gun was later recovered. A motive for the shooting was not disclosed.
Jones is lodged in the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned Thursday.
