PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A person using an Automated Teller Machine on Portland’s North Lombard Street reported being robbed at gunpoint around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
The suspect reportedly fled on foot. He’s described as an African American male, average build, armed with a handgun — last seen running westbound on North Lombard Street.
A dispatcher told KOIN 6 News that police were on their way to a Chase bank branch in the 2800 block of North Lombard Street as of 10:30 p.m. However, KOIN 6 News has learned that the actual call was to a Bank of America branch on North Lombard Street and Chicago Avenue.
Police were redirected.
Once there, “The victim told police that he drove from his house to the ATM, where he got some money then got back into his car,” the Portland Police Bureau reports. “The victim told police that the suspect ran from across North Chicago towards the victim as he was seated in his car. The suspect demanded money from the victim, while displaying the gun.”
They say when the victim refused to hand over money the suspect hit him in the head with the gun — and then ran away.
As of 11 p.m. the scene had been cleared. The victim declined medical attention.
Portland police officers, including a K-9 Unit, searched the neighborhood Wednesday night. They reportedly did not find anyone matching the suspect’s description.
