PORTLAND,Ore. (KOIN) — Filed your taxes yet? You have until the post office closes on Monday night to get them in the mail.
In 2012, 78% of people filed their taxes online, the IRS said. But millions of taxpayers will drop their returns in the mail on Monday.
If you’re still putting your return together, the US Post Office will have a number of locations open later than 6 p.m. Monday for people squeaking in under the deadline.
There is also late pickup of mail at the blue boxes throughout the metropolitan Portland area, and the main post office will have pick-up until midnight.
If you file for an extension, you’ll have until October 15 to get your return in to the IRS. But you still have to pay whatever you owe by Monday night.
