CORNELIUS, Ore. (KOIN) — A head-on crash on Baseline Street and Tualatin Valley Highway was a “direct result” of a heavy, 10-minute hailstorm Sunday, the Washington County sheriff told KOIN.

One person reportedly was trapped inside the car, and had to be cut out by rescuers. The trapped patient was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to a Portland trauma hospital, according to Cornelius Fire Department’s Twitter page‏.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. near milepost 14.3, between Cornelius and Hillsboro, Oregon.

Both directions of TV Highway between Cornelius and Hillsboro initially were closed, Cornelius Fire reported.

TV Highway between Cornelius and Hillsboro was open to two lanes of traffic by 5:40 p.m. It fully reopened around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
