Water main break ‘going to be a mess during rush hour’

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A water main break off Highway 30 had all westbound lanes of the highway closed late Wednesday afternoon.

“This is going to be a mess during rush hour,” ODOT Spokesperson Don Hamilton told KOIN. “…They think it will be backed up to I-5.”

Westbound traffic was getting by on the median, ODOT reports.

Portland Water Bureau crews were at the site as of 2:09 p.m. Wednesday, performing emergency repairs on the leaking water main. Two lanes of westbound U.S. 30 were initially closed just east of Northwest Kittridge Avenue, which is near the banks of the Willamette River.
