A man was airlifted to a Portland hospital after he crashed into a sprinkler in Canby Monday morning.

The Canby Fire Department reports that the incident occurred after 7 a.m. at the victim’s workplace, located at 505 NE 3rd Ave.

The driver was in a parking lot when suddenly accelerated across a 3,000-foot grassy area and collided into a fire sprinkler control valve. He may have suffered a medical emergency, the fire department said.

There was a backup on Interstate 5, so the driver was transported by Life Flight to Oregon Health & Science University.

His name and condition were not immediately disclosed.
