Detectives are searching for a man who attacked a woman on a North Portland sidewalk just after midnight Monday.

The Portland Police Bureau reports that the attack occurred on a sidewalk of North Larrabee Street, near Interstate Avenue. The victim told officers that a man approached her and asked for money and food. He then pushed her down, threatened to sexually assault her and punched her in the face. He also may have implied he was carrying a gun.

The woman was able to defend herself, and the suspect fled, Portland police said.

A sketch of the man has been released. He is described as Hispanic or Pacific Islander, in his 30s, about 5-foot-5 and weighing 170 to 180 pounds. He had short brown hair and brown eyes, balding or a possibly shaved head with a unique quarter-inch strap of hair behind his ear pulled into a 4-inch or 5-inch braid with a curled hair on the bottom. During the attack he was wearing a white sweatshirt and black pants.

Anyone with information on his identity should call Detective Jason Christensen at 503-823-0894.
