LONGVIEW, Wash. (KOIN) – Detectives are back on scene of suspicious death after a body was found at an abandoned building.
Police tell KOIN 6 News that a man searching for scrap metal found a human body inside a foundry Tuesday afternoon.
Officers said the body was in a 20-foot-deep concrete pit, but no additional details were released. Investigators said the body may have been there for at least a week.
Detectives with the Cowlitz County Major Crime Team responded Tuesday to investigate, but decided to wait until Wednesday morning to resume their investigation. Officers had to wait for a search warrant to search the building, police said.
The area around the building, which is located at 1310 Beech Street, has been wrapped in police crime scene tape.
No one is allowed to go near the property, and officers could be seen patrolling the area.
Police tell KOIN 6 News that the building has been abandoned for a long time and that it is a popular spot for people to find metal and use drugs.
Investigators have released no information about the person’s identity.
